Our Pub, Our Food, Our Philosophy

The White Horse is a classic English pub. A welcoming bar – with old-fashioned wooden beamed ceilings and roaring fireplace – opens up to lead into several cosy and intimate dining areas, each with their own style. From the laid back sofa benches in the bar area, to the lower restaurant with views of the gardens, and patio doors to let the sunshine in on warm days, the secluded mezzanine level and private dining opportunities for small groups in the upper ‘library.’

If the British weather permits it, then there is abundant seating in our beautiful garden complete with a duck pond shaded by a weeping willow. There’s a brand new children’s play area and plenty of space for the kids to enjoy themselves, while the patio area offers shade from the sun for those seeking a more relaxing dining experience. There’s even a barbecue that we fire up for special occasions.

The rolling fields of the idyllic Hertfordshire countryside provide a gorgeous backdrop that complements our chef’s beautiful tasty creations. Like the pub itself, our food menu offers modern twists on British pub favourites. Take a peek through the kitchen windows and you’ll see them preparing every dish in house to the chef’s own recipes. Where possible we use locally sourced ingredients and pay daily visits to the best local butchers and fish suppliers.

All of our ales are brewed just ten minutes from our cellar door, by McMullen’s Brewery which has been brewing in Hertford town centre for 190 years. As well as their range of regular ales, we offer ten seasonal ales throughout the year. And new for 2017, McMullen’s White Horse exclusive Headless Horse.

We also offer a carefully considered wine list to suit all tastes and budgets that has been specially selected to pair well with our food. Included in our extensive range of spirits is a fully stocked gin bar offering old and new favourites and interesting curios.

Our philosophy at The White Horse is very simple – a mix of delicious fresh food, carefully selected drinks and good people in a place where you can be comfy, relaxed, enthused, inspired and well looked after.

Where?

The picturesque village of Burnham Green lies three miles east of the A1 which links London to the north. The village is surrounded by four towns; Stevenage to the north, Ware to the east, Hertford to the south east and Welwyn Garden City to the south.
