The White Horse is a traditional English village pub and restaurant. The kind of peaceful picturesque venue that you might find on an old chocolate box. With wooden beamed ceilings and original features mingling side by side with complimentary and tasteful modern extensions that includes our three tiered restaurant. The White Horse sits between 100-120 people for a formal sit down meal, but our spacious bar, restaurant and garden offer space for so many more to join the party. We also have the virtue of a rural village set dead centre between the town centres of Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage and Welwyn Village, which offer plenty of hotels for your travelling guests and crucially a range of places for the all-important wedding ceremony, including a choice of pretty churches and registry offices.
We’re just a short drive from so many towns and venues and yet, Burnham Green offers a distant serenity, far from the madding crowd, your wedding reception will be secluded unique and specially curated by our wedding planners Michaela and Nico, who will work with you or your hired planner and all of your suppliers for flowers, decorations and entertrainment.
Franko, our chef patron, will meet with you to discuss menus and we’ll give you plenty of options to suit wedding styles and budgets, from the traditional sit down wedding breakfasts of many courses, to buffets and BBQ options, from the formal to the relaxed and everything in between. You’ll be invited to taste a few options and pick your menus, complimentary wines and style of presentation based on what you like.
Take the party outside with our BBQ meals and outside gazebo bar offering a full range of drinks – including draught Peroni – in the sunshine.
Our Ginstitution offers a full range of gins of different styles and tastes: a charming addition to your event, we create a gintology station – inside or in the garden – pairing the best gins with the right botanicals and mixers to bring out the flavours you love, with a gin-expert on hand the whole time to advise you and your guests on the flavours to suit their tastes.
Our sprawling gardens and duck pond are the picturesque back drop to your special day. Nestled in our tiny village location, you can enjoy total quiet and privacy in our outdoor space which offers opportunities for alfresco dining and plenty of space for games and playing – including a children’s play area.
The eclectic building is divided into different sized and shaped sections allowing intimate dining for parties of any size and being fully customised to suit the options of every occasion.
Bands, singers, DJs and performers are all welcome and we’re happy to recommend our friends who can help, or liase with your own choices so that they and you can have complete confidence on the day. Performers are welcome to perform inside or outside (within certain time and volume constraints out of respect for our neighbours).
And who said weddings need to be in the summer? Our huge garden is perfect for a chilled out gazibo with plenty of space for kids to run around, and for parents to mingle in the warm summer sunset. But consider the charm of a winter wedding, the landscape of Burnham Green is a beautiful backdrop for a winter party, or Christmas ball. A beauty that is best observed from within a spacious but cosy pub with atmospheric log fires and cosy chairs and sofas to relax into and watch others dance the dark starry winter nights away.
